The purpose of mating mares is to obtain from them original, visible as a racehorse, beautiful and swift-footed foals, typical for Akhal-Teke horses, as well as to breed exemplary Akhal-Teke horses, which are the image of the Turkmen.
When selecting suitable breeding stallions for this purpose, special attention should be paid to their origin - pedigree, the original appearance of the stallion, the speed that he demonstrated at the racetrack, color, body measurements, breed class and affiliation with the genus. Mating is a pair of a stallion and a mare assigned for breeding, where the stallion and mare are matched to each other based on the key selection criteria for pairing.
In Akhal-Teke horse breeding, a special plan is drawn up in advance for mating a mare capable of producing the desired foal with a stallion intended for use in each heat. When mating, the appropriate directions, age, color, family relationships, class of horses and foals and the expected result - the quality of the resulting foal, i.e. its theoretically possible speed, beauty and original stallion appearance are taken into account.
Among Akhal-Teke horses, the three commonly found interbreed types complement each other in selective breeding work with their unique characteristics, enriching the genetic source of horses. They play a great role in breeding and improving the quality of Akhalteke horses by breeding and crossbreeding them according to the original horse type.
Selective breeding work with original type horses should be aimed at improving their original type, strengthening the body structure, nervous system, and improving their speed. The main purpose of mating with mares and stallions of average type is to achieve the original equine type of the resulting foals, improve their bone structure and speed, increase the beauty and strength of the body, and endurance. If mares of the average type are mating with hard-bodied stallions of the original type, then foals of the original type can be expected from these mares. It is recommended to select powerful horses with a strong body for use in pairing with medium-sized mares with a lighter body structure. Then you can expect to get the original type of foals.
When selection and breeding work is carried out on powerful figure horses, the ultimate goal of their improvement is to obtain horses of an original type, strong build, fast in racing, long-distance, vigorous and delicate, for use in sports. Depending on the mare's strength, if you mating original and average horses with it, it is possible to get foals of the original type. Mating an original beautiful middle class powerful horse with a medium and gentle original mare can give good results. Mares with weak bodies and weak bones are recommended to be paired with strong, energetic stallions.
