Relations between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are based not only on neighborliness, but also on a common history, culture and, most importantly, a deep love for heavenly horses. These two brotherly states, united by the Caspian Sea, are considered the world's leading centers for the development of equestrian art.
In the history of the Turkmen and Azerbaijani peoples, a horse was considered not only a means of transportation, but also a member of the family, honor and dignity. The Akhal-Teke horses of Turkmenistan and the Karabakh horses of Azerbaijan are two shining stars of the equestrian culture of the East.
The similarities and historical ties between these two races demonstrate the closeness of the spiritual worlds of the two peoples. Therefore, the cooperation currently underway in this area is enriched with new meaning.
Equestrianism: The Golden Bridge of Cultural Diplomacy:
Equestrianism acts as a "soft power" in strengthening the friendship between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. The main areas of cooperation between the two countries are:
Exchange of experience: Breeders and specialists of the two countries regularly exchange experience in breeding horses, their nutrition and health.
International competitions: The active participation of Azerbaijani representatives in the Turkmen Horse Festival and the honoring of Turkmen breeders at equestrian events held in Azerbaijan are a continuation of our traditions.
Protection of the gene pool: Joint scientific work is being carried out to preserve the original form of ancient breeds and enhance their world fame.
Currently, through the efforts of the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, new agreements are being signed in this sector. The development of equestrian sports, the modernization of horse riding, and the inclusion of national equestrian games in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage are the results of the great attention paid to this area.
